My vacation to Point Lookout (Fallout 3 DLC)

It took me a week to get it but after a week of waiting for Microsoft to fix the Games for Windows Live! (why the exclaimiation point everywhere they use the Live, I’ll never know) shit, Fallout 3 expansion Point Lookout is mine. First impressions arrive after the jump.

Combat has evolved greatly in this newest installment. Unlike Broken Steel, this game actually attempts to ramp up the actual difficulty of the game instead of just throwing you up against higher-level enemies. The various wild hillbillies are a perfect example of this sort of enemy. They may be a bit moronic, but they attempt to flank you and do a bunch of different stunts to divert your attention.

The main quest so far is excellent. I’ve held off a mansion from “Tribals”. I’ve tripped balls big time on the local shrubbery and hallucinated giant sewing needles and saws. (That part reminds me of the 2D drawings in Psychonauts) I’ve fought loads of mirelurks andghouls. Good times.

Serial thrilla, serious killer! My main Fallout charater in a psycho clown mask.

One of the side quests involves tracking the movements of a Chinese spy pre-war and figuring out his purpose in the United States. It’s not a big-deal quest, but it’s intricate enough to be interesting.

The awesome part of that quest is my new favorite mask. The old favorite was a ghoul mask which I still use in order to ignore the ghouls all over the DC area. If only I used close-range weapons so I could employ the +5 bonus to melee.

Also, I found a fix on the Fallout 3 forums for the crash on exit with DLC installed. It turns if you download the newest Fallout mod manager, it has a tool that moves your DLC’s esm files to the game’s directory. Just make sure you check whatever DLC you’ve got when you see the launcher, and your save game should be good.
